On Friday, a gunman opened fire at a mosque in New Zealand ,killing many worshippers and the police launched a manhunt in the case.
As per reports, nearly 40 people were killed, but then the death toll could not be confirmed right now. As per the reports from the police, multiple attacks occurred at two mosques and the number of attackers involved is not yet clear.
Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s PM said that “This is one of New Zealand’s darkest days. Clearly what has happened here is an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence.”
Australian PM Scott Morrison said that the shooting in Christchurch was carried out by an extremist, right-wing, violent terrorist who was an Australian-born citizen.
For Friday afternoon prayers, the mosques were full with worshippers and the members of the Bangladesh cricket team were arriving when the gunman opened fire.
Commissioner Mike Bush said that “This is an evolving incident and we are working to confirm the facts,however we can confirm there have been a number of fatalities,”
Also he added that “Police are responding with its full capability to manage the situation, but the risk environment remains extremely high,” The attack happened at Masjid al Noor in central Christchurch and in Suburban Linwood.
