Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is sitting a day long hunger strike at Andhra Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday, demanding to fulfill the promises of special category status made by the Centre for his state.
Telugu Desam Party led by Chandrababu Naidu has been forcing a special category status for Andhra Pradesh since Telangana separated from it. TDP left the BJP led NDA alliance last year over the issue protesting “ injustice” is done to the state after the bifurcation.
“We have been denied what is rightfully ours. If you won’t fulfill your demands, we know how to get it done. This is about the self-respect of people of Andhra Pradesh”, said TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu.
Mr.Chandrababu Naidu began the “Dharma Porata Deeksha” around 8:30 in the morning after paying respect to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in Rajghat.
Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi, former Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah also joined the protest at Andhra Bhawan.
Rahul Gandhi also took chance to hit at PM Modi and said “Wherever the PM goes, he lies. He goes to Andhra he lied, he goes to northeast, he lies. He has absolutely no credibility left. PM Modi has stolen from the people of Andhra Pradesh,”
The protest comes just a day after Prime Minister slammed Mr. Naidu in a rally held at Andhra Pradesh alleging that he had misused the public money.
Chandrababu Naidu had observed fasting last year at Vijayawada on his birthday, April 20 urging special status for the state after TDP left the NDA alliance.
TDP Chief has also moved a no-confidence motion in the Monsoon session of the parliament. In 2013, he observed a indefinite strike at Andhra Bhawan demanding that if a state is separated from unified Andhra Pradesh, both should get equal justice.
Similar protests have been carried out by the Andhra CM seeking special status to the state.
